From the Latin, extempore, referring to 'in accordance with the needs of the moment', extemporaneous dispensing is the science of preparation of medicinal preparations from first principles, as a consequence of there being no appropriate commercially available medicinal product for the treatment of a patient.

Compiled using contributions from 26 hospitals in the Republic of Ireland, the information presented on Extemp.ie details most of the currently prepared extemporaneous preparations used in these hospitals.

Dear extemp.ie users,
Both existing and new users are welcome to the re-launched extemp.ie website, a directory of extemporaneous formulations.  The new site is easier to navigate, and registration is free.  Many new monographs may be found in the 'Monograph Downloads' section, including many archival monographs for reference purposes.  The administrators of extemp.ie welcome feedback and comments.
Best regards, www.extemp.ie
